Quaker friendship awaits you in El Establo hotel, set in a private 150 acres farm (50% protected primary forest) adjacent to the Monteverde Reserve. In the 1950’s during the Corean War, a grup of Quakers 11 families drove from Alabama to Monteverde. They bought about 1500 hectares, which divided among the families and saved portions to preserve nature, today The Monteverde Cloud Forest. Tourism in Monteverde started with the need to lodge family and friends of the Quaker community who came to visit from the United State and visiting scientists studying the variety and uniqueness of species found at the Monteverde Reserve.
